Few authors hook readers as quickly as Karin Slaughter, and A Faint Cold Fear is no exception.
Set several months after Kisscut, the story follows Jeffrey and Sara as they investigate a string of suspicious suicides on a college campus. Meanwhile, Lena—now working as campus security—seems intent on pushing everyone away as she deals with her own trauma.
The mystery is compelling, and Slaughter’s signature dark and gritty storytelling keeps you on edge. However, the tension between the main characters can be frustrating at times. While the case itself is intriguing, this book felt more like a bridge in the series, setting up future character arcs rather than delivering the same punch as its predecessors.
A solid crime thriller, but not my favorite in the series. Hoping for more resolution in the next installment!
