E. Lockhart is the pen name of Emily Jenkins, an American author known for her young adult novels. She was born in New York City in 1967 and grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Lockhart studied at the Vassar College and then went on to earn her PhD in English literature from Columbia University. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a children's book editor. Lockhart has written several books, including the popular "We Were Liars" and "The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks." Her writing often explores themes of identity, family, and secrets. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York with her family.
