The Girl Who Was Taken

It took a while to get invested in the story and characters. The perspective alternated between characters, primarily following medical examiner-in-training Livia. Her scenes were bogged down with excessive clinical detail about autopsies that overwhelmed the narrative. As a result, Livia lacked personality and empathy, coming across robotic at times. The investigation also wrapped up too neatly, with convenient clues moving the plot forward.
The central mystery was well-crafted, however, with several viable suspects. While the culprit was one of them, it wasn't my top guess. The flashback chapters were highlights. In the end though, the lackluster protagonist, overly technical writing, and open ending left me disappointed I spent the money.
